I have written, edited, and conducted research for over 30 years.

As a feature writer for University of Tennessee publications, my articles on environmental research reach an audience of several thousand, and my work has been reprinted by UT’s Office of Communications in its educational outreach efforts, by other publications, and on the Internet.

As assistant and managing editor of the quarterly journal Forum for Applied Research and Public Policy for six years, I helped decide content, corresponded with research scientists and policy makers in the local, national, and international arenas, and substantively edited articles on complex environmental, scientific, technological, and policy issues for a non-technical  audience.

As a professor of French literature, I wrote scholarly articles, fiction based on science, poetry, and grant proposals for personal and institutional purposes.

I earned the doctorate in French literature from Vanderbilt University in 1977 and the Masters’ in Communications with a concentration in writing for science and the environment from the University of Tennessee in 1997.
